Fall 2012 From our Purveyors:
We learned one of our favorite vendors, John R. Craighead Co., Inc, has closed their doors. Based in Denver this long established, family owned business began in 1876. We wish the Craighead family, and their staff of dedicated workers, that they find Happy Trails. It's been a pleasure ridin' with you 'pard, and you are missed.
We were honored to carry this wonderful line of cowboy and cowgirl accessories. Just one look at these gun sets will transport you to another time. Perhaps you’ll journey back to your childhood? Do you have stirring memories of strapping on your favorite gun rig, holstering your shooting iron, tying on a colorful bandana, and donning your hat in preparation for adventures astride you horse or bike? Did you have a favorite outfit just like Hoppy, Gene, or Roy wore? Was a set of their officially licensed cap guns on your gift wish list?
The John R. Craighead Co., Inc. has a long history of making cowboys’ and cowgirls’ dreams come. Here is an overview of the distinguished history of the John R. Craighead Co., Inc. as presented by John J. Craighead, great-grandson of the founder. They are no longer in business but they are a part Western history and its important their story be kept alive!
“The year 1876 was the beginning of our company and the state of Colorado. A few years earlier gold was discovered in our mountains and the rush began. ‘Pikes Peak or Bust’ was the slogan on the wagons heading west.
My great- grandfather heard that saddle makers were in short supply. So he moved his family west and opened a small shop. He was soon making harnesses, gun belts, holsters and chaps, as well as saddles. The customers kept coming back because his quality and workmanship was the best.
Four generations later the ranchers and cowboys are still our customers. But for the last fifty years we have had another customer: the make-believe Cowboy.
Our clothing and toys are made of real leather which means greater strength. As our little cowboy plays, the leather becomes soft and supple. It’s no surprise that once the child grows up, these outfits become keepsakes to be handed down to their own kids.
Today we strive for the same quality and workmanship as we did in 1876.”
Thank you, John R. Craighead Co., Inc. for the years of memory making your wonderful products provided for young cowboys and cowgirls everywhere!
